US Open 2020 - 2nd Round
Well, the only 2 people scoring worse than Phil are 2 amateurs. I've been shouting from the mountain tops for 15 years, Phil, fix that crooked driving of yours!! On courses like this, you can't putt good enough to get out of trouble. Please don't enter the next US Open, even if you're eligible. And where did 9 over come from?... I thought he was 8 over (I probably couldn't not even watch the rest of the last hole).

Re: US Open 2020 - 2nd Round
Just watched the full screen video right behind Phil teeing off on the par3, looks like an outside-to-in (square to the ball) pull. Is he not getting anyone to help him with his swing this week? Mechanics look way off. As a lefty myself, I can relate to his swing position and it looks like when I try to hit an iron too hard, trying for distance beyond my comfort zone, throwing the club out a little and then swinging across the ball, but square, resulting in a straight pull, and sure enough, ball started out and ended up right (bunker?). If the face would have been open a little, then a big slice.

Wow, off right edge of green and gets it only half way back to the hole? Wow, made long putt for par, maybe 18-20 footer?

Yup PHIL is just off--made par at #10---great bird at #11--but wild off the tee at #12 for another bogie.

Still, "Even" after 5 holes, looks like he'll be Even after 6 holes (unless he misses this 3 footer)...so playing better today. Wish he tempered his play yesterday.

Could this be Phil's last round ever playing in the US Open PGA?

That shot on 17 by Phil may have been the greatest shot ever hit in the game

PHIL's second shot at #17 was a thrill. PHIL's game is such that he has one or two just complete head shaking shots a round. Of course if you hit 80% of the fairways and 80% of the greens in regulation you don't need amazing recovery shots. PHIL is a weekly high light reel!

Phil finished his us open with a 4 putt

Not a pretty end!!!
I am not sure what to make of it. I get wanting to play the week before a major but I would done more time at Winged Foot. Plus fix the driver!!!! Fix the three wood!

Fix the damn putter!
he'd probably be at +2 if his putting was anything close to tour level

Re: US Open 2020 - 2nd Round
I have always admitted my disdain for Phil never having 'fixed his broken driving' for 5, 10, 15 years now. Now, more than ever, as courses have gotten harder, fairways narrower, and rough deeper, and talent better, that his 'broken driving' is hampering him more than ever at a time when his skilled are less than they once were. His competing on these difficult courses/course conditions has come to an end. As far as majors, maybe he could still be competitive at the Masters (minimal rough), maybe. But that's about it. Anyway, he likely won't be eligible for the next US Open as he only got into this one because of the Covid-expanded ranking from 60th to 70th. He will likely be well above 70th for the next US Open. Not sure about the PGA. British, he's still eligible for having won some time back.

Nobody should be surprised that Bryson's strategy is working. It is the EXACT same strategy Phil used back in 2006. Only difference is, Bryson putts a LOT better than Phil did that week

I don't know what the fury is over Bryson's approach (i.e., Rory's interview sounded like sour grapes). But I can imagine the future of golf will be some mix of long drive players that can play golf.... most looking like linebackers.
