If Phil can par 16 and then come back tomorrow morning and get one birdie, he could make the cut.

Too much golf in one day on such a tough track. Stenson really has imploded. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Phils coach Getson was carrying his bag when they walked off 17th tee. Gary McCord said Bones may need a knee replacemrnt. Bones was probably more fatigued than Phil.
I really like Getson saw him following Phil for entire rounds when I was at Doral and the Players this year.

Phil did himself in by saying "my game is really suited for US Open"...death knell, he jinxed himself.  Kind of like announcers saying someone hasn't 3-putted in 150 holes....and then they do it right there.

And the part about "I hope USGA went over the edge because the harder it is, the better my chances", lol.

Well, he might be right with his short game. This weather and course conditions puts lots of golfers in the mix. I also think that fatigue had to be a factor for him. He's fit, but has health issues. Wish he hadn't had to make that trip back to CA. In agreement with you, I wish he'd not verbalize his confidence. He must be really disappointed.

Just saw espn video. Andy North said sometimes a 46 yr.old body doesn't react how you want it to.
Sergio said his legs tired and he was too old for this. THIS is a,statement from a guy 10 years younger than Phil and playing great. Imagine the toll on Phil and playing lousy.

Phil looked steady this morning. Stenson didn't show up and Rose bogied both holes. Phil might make the cut.

Second shots did PHIL in. He hit fairways but could not hit greens.

On 17th Bones said good shot ball looked to be headed for the green but veered into the big mouth bunker. Zero lucky breaks this week. Would love to see the cut go to +7 just for Phil to salvage something . I THINK majors are double for Ryder Cup points

As of right now, it appears that Phil will make the cut.  The projected cut line is +7, so he is right on it.  I wouldn't be surprised to see it go to +8/9 since there are still plenty of golfers out there finishing the second round.  At least if he can make the cut, maybe he can move up the leaderboard over the the next 2 rounds and salvage a top 20.  Of course, he could do the opposite and absolutely tank.  Oh well...

Actually after looking at the leaderboard again, it will probably be close as to whether he makes the cut.  I say at best the cut line will be +7, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it swing to +6.

Just read on twitter one of the writers said Phil expects to play the weekend. We know he is glass half full I hope he's right. That being said I hate watching golf and rooting for everyone to implode. But hey gotta do what ya gotta do

Unless it dries out, the cut won't go to 7, but it should start warming up soon. It'll be close.

Holes 7-8-9 as well as 15-16-18 are among the hardest ones. 7-8-9 are especially brutal.

So most golfers out have some of the toughest holes to go.

I don't think he will make the cut.  Most likely be 2-4 people from getting to +7 for it to happen.  

Unfortunately the question then becomes not whether he can compete for a major this year, but whether he can make the cut in a major this year.  This would be his 5th missed cut so far this year.  I don't recall him ever missing so many cuts in a year and considering he is playing better this year than the last couple it is odd.  Most likely way too much on his plate beyond golf.

Course is definitely drying up and getting more difficult. The guys playing this morning are going to be tired and the course will be even harder this afternoon, you never know.

At least Rory missed the cut. Golf gods got him for saying he was annoyed when Phil and Rickie were fist bumping during 2014 PGA

Rickie and Patrick Reed missed also. When will Phil play again?

My guess is in 3 weeks the WGC Bridgestone. Then week off and Scottish open then British open.

RORY declined interview. Sorry but MC are part of being a pro. Grow up Rory. Lots of guys are ticked they aren't there for the weekend.

PHIL and yes Rory has to be disappointed. I know I am. I hate to blame the delay but went was out of sorts with his iron play on Friday morning and basically never got of it. Back to back rounds did not help but that's golf.

PHIL's schedule is a bit of a question mark. Things are tight right now. He will be off next week but the WCG Bridgestone starts in 11 days? Then comes Scotland then OPen championship.

Firestone CC is not high on PHIL's best loved courses. Would not surprise me to see him ditch it.
