Re: Masters 2nd Round 2016
I just listened to Hank Haney on Sirius PGA Tour Radio and he said the wind can push the ball 2 holes out from 2 feet if you don't hit it firm enough....but if you hit it that firm, and miss, you might be 8-10 feet away, so there's a reluctance to hit it hard enough and then the win takes the ball and that's why you have so many misses from seemingly 2-feet (what should be automatic range).
gophil36 wrote:I agree that Phi's often delusional. Not sure if you've seen these greens, but when you don't put the ball where it needs to be on the green, some of the putts are ridiculous. I saw enough missed 2 footers and less today to know that Phil was not the only one with the ball in the wrong places on the green. That may be what he's alluding to. He, of all people should know what these greens do. He certainly didn't execute, and he must be really disappointed. Maybe he can figure it out by the US Open, but I won't get quite as excited about it until it happens! Poor Stenson missed a bunch, too, but he made the cut!

I think a recap of his interview is: "I'm a knucklehead, I made too many mistakes and mismanaged my way around the course". At least he's honest.

Bob Harig of ESPN said on twitter that Phil said he made "dumb ass mistakes". When you look forward to 4 tournaments a year and this one he plays the best in how can this happen especially coming into it as good as his stats indicated. He has said earlier this year in the regular tournaments he contended in he has to stop making these mistakes...well he made the MOST in his last 10 holes. Very hard to understand it must be the age and pressure and that is something a hall of famer would never admit to while he is still competing.

I'd like to see Garcia (1st) and Bryson Dechambeaux (2nd choice) for winning !!

And he threw away a chance at the SHO by hitting driver....what a waste that was. But these 'dumb ass mistakes' decisions may play as a factor in choosing a Ryder Cup Captain's pick if he isn't an automatic.

Re: Masters 2nd Round 2016
I would be happy if Sergio won as well. He's more mature than he used to be and his time is running out as well. I hope that Phil keeps his mouth shut before the US Open about how great his game is and flies under the radar--but that's not his style. I love him but the highs and lows are equal. He's amazing. Nobody playing out there has as many pga tour wins and he does, and most won't achieve them. He has a right to be proud and even cocky at times, but I wish he'd cool it! I think playing in this wind is likely to screw up some swings for awhile.

IMO The wind is bad enough to screw up this tournament. I know everyone plays in it but when Billy Horschel ball blows in hazard and costs him too many lucky breaks are needed. That being said the 2 best players are in contention. Last year's US open was a crock too with those horrible greens. I'd like a major to be played with no controversial stuff ...like Phil finishing in Dark at PGA. Phils time is running out for sure and I know I must sound like sour grapes but I'd just like a major to be won by good golf shots like last year's Masters.

Well, the last two groups are interesting, and Jordon helped it out by dropping 3 shots in 2 holes. Smyley and Jordan. Bernhard in the next to the last tee time. Phil may have more time than we know. I agree with all of the above. What's the weather forecast for tomorrow? How far back is too far?

Amazing...bogie, bogie, quad....if only Phil was around on the weekend, I think Phil thrives for sundays! Dustin J., oh my gosh, you need to work on your putting....he could have won this just on the makeable birdie putts he missed.

Spieth has blown big leads at Augusta in 2014 and 2016
The one lead he kept was the one last year he had over Phil

Yes, in as much as Speith handed it to him on a silver platter. Didn't come close to hitting his target from 155 yrds and then again from 80 yrds that must have been 25 yrds short, ouch.

Somebody who learns golf in a sheep pasture and whose father is his mental coach has a better chance of finding strength within himself when he needs it than someone who relies on a team of experts. Not that they're never needed, but somehow it seems when life has been tougher, it gives one the veneer often needed when the pressure arrives. It's my opinion that's the case. My opinions aren't worth much sometimes. LOL

Yes, very true.
