A commentator saying he was "definitely" going to make the putt also didn't help.

I thought it was in when he hit it. That putt always breaks back towards the front, but I guess the lip off the bunker kept it from moving. Hopefully he takes all the positives from this year and doesn't let this one get to him. It's been awhile since we had a start like this and can be excited for golf in February.

WHAT'S good news was PHIL MADE THE Clutch SHOTS ON 16 AND 17. He could have easily fell down the board today and he fought hard hey its been so long for us fans this is a great start. Just hope the young guys don't turn into tiger woods triplets Lol.

Hopefully it isn't too long though, he needs to continue playing competitive golf as much as possible to sharpen his game.
I thought I remember he is playing a tourny he never plays. Honda maybe in 2 weeks? I'll see if I can find the story, but I think I read it on here.
Thanks. While I don't want him to burnout too early in the season, I think playing as much as possible is the best way for his new swing changes to become consistent.
BTW: Welcome aboard. Were you with us when we were on Createforum?
Yes, I have been following the forum from board-to-board. Posted some, mostly a lurker though. Hard for me to post over the past couple of years when there were few good tourneys that Phil played well in, which led to minimal interest from me. Hopefully, the good start to this year is a sign of things to come. The one good thing I see is that he is already earning a spot on the Ryder Cup team...

Same. Posted a ton over there. Barely posted here. Haven't had much golf interest the past few years(both with Phil and not playing the game myself over that stretch)

Welcome back. I think that I wanted him to win worse than he did. LOL Hope he's not as bummed as we are right now. He actually looked like he was having fun on the 18th tee, but he looked pretty somber after the missed putt on 18! This is all good practice for the majors, and I hope that his good play continues and that he can close one out soon!

PHIL was off his game today. He could have salted it away on the 1st few holes but struggles.
Saying that he was monster at 16 and 17 in the clutch. Just a whisper of a movement and he makes playoff at 18
He's back in the game and that what matters. Tiger is on the couch and PHIL is in the mix.

Phil picked up 32.4 OWGR points to push him up to 20th
Bad final rounds the last couple of weeks really hurt him. Should have had 54 this week, which would have moved him up to 14th, which would be just out of an Olympic spot.
Good finishes the last 2 weeks and Phil would have been inside the Olympic qualification cutoff

I don't think this loss was as brutal for Phil as Rickie's was for him last week, as Phils great play this year has to be buoying.

Derek
what is the olympic qualification? I am clueless on that matter?
The rdelbov family enjoyed PHIL today--even losing its better with PHIL. Lots of PHIL except in San Diego.

I think the top 4 Americans in the world golf rankings qualify. Some golfers from obscure countries will make it that are ranked really low in the world.

top 4 Americans, as long as there are 4 Americans within the top 15 in the world.
The last 2 Sunday's really hurt him. May have cost him as much as 35 world rankings points, or about .8 on his average

I am certain that it cost him, but from where he's come, how can we expect more than what has transpired. He can still achieve his goals for the year if his good play continues. JMO

Re: Pebble Beach Final Round 2016
That's the key to me. PHIL was so much of a non starter for much of 2014-2015. Yes he got close in two majors and 3 or 4 other events but mostly he was out of it. Now we have 3 events where PHIL was either in the last group or next to last group. That's being in the arena. You have to knock at the door to win and PHIL is right there.
