1st Round Open Championship 2021

and PHIL will be out tomorrow morning. I guess I could get up or someone could do a thread early on Thursday but I have a few PHIL comments to make.

1st PHIL is out with Hatton and Kisner. I am not sure he has ever gone out with them on a major? PHIL is quite top 20 in the world so why does he rate a great spot. Well he is PHIL and a former Open Champion so maybe he still rates a top spot. PGA champion as well?

2nd some PHIL attention this week--not like Torry Pines but some. He is under the radar!

3rd and yes he came close at St Georges in 2011. That short par missed doomed him--I think it was hole #11? I am not a big fan of this course. Like a lot of links courses it just looks ugly to me. Ben Hogan called the courses un-mowed cow pastures. I guess I am close to that opinion.

Not a good start for Phil. While it seems everyone is making birdies, he is +2 after four holes. Hopefully he can get his game going.

Phil is now +3 after 5 holes.

Phil is now +5 after nine holes. He is only two shots out of last place. Looks like he will be flying home tomorrow unless he can get the birdie train going. He has missed a couple of good birdie putts.

I feel horrible for Phil. I hope he isn't too hard on himself. There are plenty of tournaments left to earn that Ryder cup spot. Tough at 51 to peak fir the majors. Let's not forget the PGA!!

Phil is not going to be on the Ryder Cup. Stricker said Phil had to show consistency after he won the PGA if he would consider him.

We have plenty of tournaments for Phil to prove himself worthy of a pick. I know Stricker said that and Phil agreed.

He's playing too many tournaments. He simply cannot get up for them all any longer.

He needs to drop down to 10 a year

+10 for PHIL! Of I was on an easier today and only playing 6000 yards but I shot a 77 today! Tough day for PHIL. Not his course!

+2 today and what is next for PHIL?

WGC in Memphis. He will have a well deserved rest and he plays well there. We must remember it wasn't long ago he wasn't qualified for those no cut events. IMO with US open prep and 3 tournaments in a row ...then The Match and flying overseas is too much golf for Phil. I dont care how great of shape hes in. I know he wanted to stay sharp but even the young guys don't play like that. Phil has a lot going on in his life besides golf.

He can't hit it in the fairways, he won't do well. I think the PGA was a lucky fluke, pocket it, but don't let it go to anyone's head that 'Phil is back'.

Bulls with all due respect i just checked driving accuracy this week and Phil hit 71.4%of fairways. So this week the rest of the game was off.
