Phil is looking the 'fittest' I have seen him in a long time (he had this look for a bit now) but he really looks in good shape. Bad to bogie right out of the gate.

What the heck kind of putt was that? Complete mis-read? left it what, 4 feet out to the left, above the hole? Not good.

Did Phil just use a driver off the deck (2nd cut) on right of par-5 fairway and push it OOB? Golly Phil.

That was such a dumb play by Phil. It cost him big time. Now he is +2. Needs to play smarter.

I keep telling myself he won the PGA to keep myself from getting irritated.

Lol, but PGA had less rough and Phil hit unbelievable ~75% driving accuracy the first 2 days (instead of his normal 55%). So, if he returns to his normal driving accuracy, he'll find the rough more and he won't do as well out of the rough here.

I think he has a better shot at the British open this year than at Torrey..

So much hoopla was made over Phil's extended practice here and he's playing like he just showed up the morning of the tournament. Golly... <50% greens in regulation.

Wide open, little rough (or whispy rough) and few trees.... kinda like PGA

I saw a study where 99.999% of short putts never made it into the hole.

Phil...you have to get it to the hole...leaving it 2 inches short doesn't count, especially on a flat, slightly up hill surface.

Phil is one under but he really could be 4 under after five if he could putt.

I know everything looks good but putts aren't dropping

They said back 9 playing over par so you need to score on the front. Phil really needed those birdies.

Golly Phil, now just make a putt. If you leave this downhill putt short, I'm not going to bother watching even if you make the cut!!

Phil would be in contention if he wasn't playing the par 5s like Koepka did at Kiawah

Even though Phil missed many birdie opportunities, he made several big par putts. He easily could of missed the cut.

Phil's driving saved him....I believe he did better than his average on hitting fairways. Just checked... 61% of Fairways hit (yearlong average is 51%).

But he left at least 3 birdies on the table missing makeable putts, but had at least 3 remarkable off-the-green/bunker short-sided par saves too.
