WGC-HSBC Champions - Round 1

Looks like Phil needs to play well to stay within world ranking at 50. Managed to stay within the top 50 for 26 years.

His playing partner, Haotong Li is leading at -8 while Phil is at -1.  Li is currently 59th in world and can bump Phil out of top 50 with a win.

and round two is under way-PHIL is -1 after 5 holes

There has been a pattern the last few tournaments. Phil's playing partners shoot a great round and end up atop the leader board. I guess he has a habit of bringing out their best golf.

I'm just hoping for a Top-10 finish, he's not had one of those in a while.

Especially since he's won there twice, right? He's not playing well at all...too many bogies, gee 5 bogies on the back 9?. He's not competitive anymore. He gets that one round that competes with the others, but then there's 1 round where he treads water and 2 rounds where he goes backwards. Phil, don't bang your head against the wall.... go Champions Tour when you 'come of age'. Become the Hale Irwin and Bernard Langer of the Champions Tour, where everyone will say "Not Phil again!!, lol". But then again, you might find that those guys can flat out play as well.
