That's why I'd rather see Phil play more venues that don't have trees, lol. Like the event in Palm Springs (ex-Bob Hope tourney), whatever it's called now.... they don't have any trees down there as I recall. The HSVC? event in China has trees, but they're pretty far apart.

I think the China tournament gives Fed-Ex Cup points.

Its counted as a pgatour win now. when Phil one twice it didn't. He would have had 44 wins not 42. You get Ryder cup points because it is a WGC and fed Ex points

Phil's second win was a WGC, got all of the perks, but not an official win for some bizarre reason. The first time, it was strictly a Euro Tour event

from the sounds of things, this tournament may have had minutes to spare when it finished due to the wild fires. Had this went to a playoff, we may have ended up with a tie instead of an outright winner

There are a couple of interesting articles on Finau's "luck" in hitting the ball close to the pin on his approach and how it saved him an important stroke or two. Grey area.

I read it cost Phil and Hadley in theory 2nd place more money and more Fed ex points.

Right. Mell is upset about it. Thinks that some are hitting before balls can be marked when playing from a difficult spot and using them as a backstop. His ball was headed way off the green. Also, I've read that players who are friends help each other out. Not sure, of course.

if this tournament can occur next year, Phil won't have to worry about being in the trees

I read they were doing that (not marking) to help speed up play...I forgot at what point, but my wife and I remember the announcer saying during the televised portion that "they just completed a 3-hr front nine". I doubt anyone would want to help their competitor gain an advantage over them. I remember Tony's ball looking like it would be well past the hole if it didn't get stopped by that unmarked ball (far enough he would not likely make the putt back). I think Mell just wanted something to rant about.
