and it was typical PHIL on Thursday. Missed a lot of fairways-scrambled around making great shots-missed some putts-made some putts-pleased the crowd and shot under par.

Maybe he will be steady eddie with a 65 today?

Worse than 'typical'... only 2-of-14 fairways.

Yes but he just missed several of them--2/14 was not great but in play for every hole.

Crap, first two players almost hit identical drives in the fairway and Phil pulls it wide right.

Hole 5, another bogie coming up because of a bad drive.... can't play in PGA like that and expect to win.


.... Make that a double bogie.... missed a 4-ft 8-inch putt for bogie, gawd awful.

this is so disappointing. Lets face it the only reason he is here is because his management company runs it. Must have been a fluke to finish T8 last year here. These fairways are way too narrow for his game. And then double bogey because he is thinking about his crappy drive and cant putt a 5ft for bogey.

Holes 16 17 18 are birdie holes some guys birdied all 3 yesterday...lets see if Phil can!

Seems like it's always a case of 2-steps-forward/1-step back, or 2-steps-backwards/1-step-forward. Please Phil, let's try simply walking forward instead of the Irish jig.

Ehhhh.,.... made a mess of the par-5. In fairway, 260 to the hole and he puts it 230 into the rough on left, then overshoots the pin by 40 feet.

stupid decision to go for the green and ended up in rough short sided for his chip and is 38 ft away for birdie . At least he got par par

Phil said in his interview how good his irons are and that's great but he cant seem to sink the puts in the 7 to 15 foot range .

another par 5 wasted. drive in rough and his layup also in the rough. Cant win doing this. My guess the lead is going to be 11 or 12 under after round 2.

I was just going to type that.  If he wants to improve his playing ability into his later 40's, if he can only improve his 'fairways hit' stats...that will improve his proximity to the hole....and improve his percentage of putts holed. Improving putting may help in the 12-15 foot range (hell, he missed two 4-footers today), but it won't improve making putts if you're 30+ feet away, which is what he's going to get a lot of if he's playing mostly from the rough.

I think he's tired!

Maybe he should stay home and take naps in the afternoons :-) .

Bunkered on par-3, short-sided, now needs to make a 14+ footer for par.... BOGIE.

Phil was #1 in Par 3s on the tour in 2016. These past 12 months have been the complete opposite. GO FIGURE.

unfortunately, don't know what he did from the fairway with only 230 to the pin, but he pulled it to the right and now is short-sided. Maybe only par....we'll see.

UNREAL sitting perfect in fairway finally on a par 5 and now 67 feet for birdie.

10 feet for par Im thinking 2 putt birdie after that drive. Phil never thinks where to miss it as he has short sided himself way too much this week,

Makes the pressure par putt. He parred 3 par 5s today but this last one should really bother him. Thank goodness for the par save. Now may the afternoon groups FALL APART. I know in golf you aren't suppose to root against guys but with Phil you have too. LOL LOL

I really think I need to follow a TEAM sport if one guy plays poorly the team can pick up the pace. This is too stressful
