Masters 2nd Round 2018

Nothing looks particularly sharp at the moment, but his short game really looks off. Very shaky with a wedge in his hands.

He was 1 off the lead after 8 holes. Pressure of a major at 47. His game isn't this bad

He's really done it now. Hope he makes the cut.

Phil pars 13th from fairway. He is forgetting it's only Friday. Going to blow it today if this continues

Pathetic finish. Just a complete lack of focus to grind it out. Really disappointing.

His stats were the best in his career heading into this tournament. At 47 that's spectactular. How do you shoot a 79. Major championship nerves.

I would suggest 'bad driving' set him up with his triple bogie that rattled him and possibly affected his subsequent shot making. Tiger is similar driving not so well.

What's the cut, within 10 of the lead or top 60? (or is it 50?)...I'm thinking top 50?  Phil is +5 (T-49) and lead is -6. Oops, projected cut it +5, hope it doesn't creep up.

I believe they said top 50 and 10 shot of lead rule.

But what if top 50 is different than 10-shot of lead? What if 'within 10 of lead' = top 40, which one wins out?

LOL, no kidding (practice round). I'll pull for Hoffman or Rickie. Don't want Reed to leap frog Phil's Ryder cup standings with a win

early late ended up being the best half of the draw. Conditions became perfect this afternoon, while the morning had those brutal conditions

looks like Reed is running away with this. May be him vs Leishman

Phil played like dogshit, yet he got the bad end of the draw big time

I hope Leishman wins. A non Américan taking top prize will help Phil try to maintain Ryder Cup positioning. Hopefully he can have a decent weekend now that pressure is off to win it. I think it's double ryder cup points for majors

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Entering the Masters with his best form in years, Phil Mickelson had already blown himself out of the tournament by early Friday afternoon.

Mickelson made a triple bogey and a double bogey en route to a 7-over 79, plummeting out of contention for a fourth green jacket. The 7-over round matched his career-worst score at Augusta National.

He was at 5-over 149, on the cut line and more than a dozen shots off the lead.

“It was a rough day,” he said afterward. “I don’t know what’s happened the last couple of days. It’s a little disappointing, because I’ve been playing so well this year, to play like this. But it’s disappointing. It’s my favorite tournament of the year, and it’s a rough couple of days.”

Mickelson broke a five-year winless drought with his victory last month at the WGC-Mexico Championship. It was the first time in his career that he’d posted four consecutive top-6 finishes on Tour.

His play this week has been unrecognizable.

“It just seemed like he wasn’t completely comfortable off the tee,” said Rickie Fowler, who was grouped with Mickelson over the first two rounds here.

Mickelson hit just five of 14 fairways in the second round. One of those misses was on the par-4 ninth hole, where he sailed his drive into the right trees. Just one shot off the lead at the time, he tried to play a punch shot with a 2-iron, but his ball caught a tree and ricocheted into the bushes. After escaping the trees, he couldn’t pull off a risky flop shot short and right of the green, leading to a triple bogey. He bounced back with a birdie on 10, then bogeyed 11, pulled his tee shot into Rae’s Creek on 12 and then tacked on two more bogeys the rest of the way.

Just like that, his chances at becoming the oldest Masters champion in history were over – at least this year.

“It’s disappointing,” he said afterward. “There’s a fine line between wanting it so bad and then also letting it happen. As you get older you feel a little bit more pressure each one because you don’t feel as though you have unlimited number of events.

“Given how I was playing heading into this, I certainly put a lot of pressure on myself to perform this week and get it, because I know the opportunities here are lessening. I thought this was a great year, a great opportunity.”

Kind of sad. (:

With some great play, he certainly can improve his position.

Not sure where ESPN was getting their forecast from all week. The highest winds I have seen forecast are 8-12 for today. Now expecting 6-9 mph Could be briefly higher near a thunderstorm, but play would be suspended
