9.5 feet for birdie....let's do it.
Yesterday, when Jack was asked "what do you take of Phil's preparation for the majors?", Jack said Phil prepares for the majors, but there's nothing like winning a regular tournament to show you that you're on track....so he can start with the Memorial!. I think Jack was trying to say that one's play in a regular tournament is important, it shows you that what you're doing it working. I think in a way, it was dismissive of Phil's attempt to suggest that a preliminary tournament wasn't to important because he is 'preparing for a major', Jack saying that yea, although he prepared for majors more than regular tournaments, he also tried to always win regular ones (more of an excuse than anything....I think Jack was trying to be diplomatic, but I think that's where he was headed).

Re: Memorial 1st round 2016
I'll say one thing, he's driving the ball nicely. They were saying on Sirius PGA Tour radio that's what you have to do to score well here, that it's very 'scoreable' if you are playing from the fairways.
They also said Jack likes to keep 'fast greens', that they're like 14-stimp, but unlike the Sawgrass, the greens are flatter, not as much with the hills and swales that are impossible to navigate together with fast greens.

Whoa! Phil is just 6 feet away from three birdies in a row and 4 in five holes!
He is striking the ball nicely.

missed another 12 footer at 10 to stop the birdie train. Has 5-6 feet for birdie at 11...ball striking looks really good!
