The 13 to 20 guys are weak so IMO PHIL is in no matter what

Phil moves up to #3 in Ryder Cup standings. At this point, with his performance at The Open Championship, even if he were to fall outside the top/automatic 8 spots, who would deny him a berth as a Captain's Pick.... I say he just solidified his position as a 'lock'.

I just hope Phil gets the proper accolades for earning a spot on his 11th Ryder Cup team. That's pretty impressive!!!

Very impressive indeed--Adds to his American record and will tie Nick Faldo for total number of appearances.

Very little doubt in my mind that he makes the team in 2018 as well.

Not sure about Rickie, seems like he's not trying to insure Ryder Cup pick. He didn't play the week before the Olympics, there are no points for the Olympics just perhaps showing the Ryder Captain that you are playing well and what's he do?.... he's +4 on the first day, and 3 off the bottom of the leaderboard. And he's not playing the week after the Olympics while other players are playing before and after. The announcers on PGATour Radio were saying "well some people just don't care for the Ryder Cup and treat it like, 'well if they qualify and get in, great; if not, fine". But glad that Phil is basically a lock.

lots to watch the next three weeks in this race

Well, Rickie did the Olympics. Don't blame him for wanting to experience the opening ceremonies amd hang with other olympians. He may never get another chance. Tough call. None pf the guys who played in the states did very well did they? Bet some of the guys who stayed home now wish they'd gone.

Well, seems like Rickie changed his mind and IS PLAYING WYNDHAM after the Olympics...he said he 'wants an RC spot'. And today he finished the front 9 in -6 and is now T15 at -3. Incredible since he was +4 earlier and near the bottom.

OK, Phil's a 'lock' for the Ryder Cup.  The only Ryder Cup drama will be who will make the automatic 'top-8' by the end of this coming week's tournament (Aug 25-28) and who will be the 4 captain's picks, which will be made by selecting the first 3 picks and then the last 1 decided two weeks later.
All Ryder cup decisions will be made on Sundays:
- Top 8 /automatic: Sunday, Aug 28, after the end of the Barclays
- 3 Captain's picks: Sunday, Sept. 11, after the end of the BMW
- 1 Captain's pick: Sunday, Sept. 25, after the end of FedEx Tour Championship

There's going to be a battle for the 4 Captain's picks for sure. I think Olympic bronze medalist Kuchar is a lock as a Captain's pick shooting career low on sunday. And if old man Furyk can look decent again this week, he is showing some good play even though he is around 15 or so.

I agree, unless they drop out of their current positions.  I think JB can solidify if he does something bold this week or perhaps if Jim has several weeks to climb, come on are you really going to leave "Mr. 58" out? if he is knocking on the door and playing well since his return?  I think if Furyk outplays JB, Piercy and Haas he may get the nod, perhaps as the 4th/last pick?

Rickie will have to do something magical next week, if he gets in (4th round = currently at FedEx position 30 through 7 holes).  If he doesn't get in, I think he's out.

I agree JB and Kutcher are in. I guess Bubba is redeeming himself this event somewhat.. but has done nothing since march. Rickie popular but playing aweful.
