and PHIL needs to avoid wild drives and make some putts to zoom up the leaderboard. I think anything under par makes the cut but -5 gets him back in it.

Heard the announcer on SiriusXM PGATour say that Phil 'making a mess again on hole #3, this time from way left (yesterday was way right).'

Gee whiz. Phil is going home tonight.

I think he's played too much golf. Needs a break, among other things. Not the biggest surprise to miss the cut!

Playing 5 in a row is too much. Plus one being in Saudi . The young guys don't play that many consecutive events. Phil peaked at Pebble beach and it's truly a shame he couldn't snag that win. We at least would have had a victory out of the way. Even though I think this hitting bombs is too much I think the fatigue caused his driving performance to be low. Also being paired with Bubba and Brooks is too much of a driving competition for Phil to resist.

His driving performance has always been bad, now likely worsened by trying to 'hit bombs'. It's a recipe for dramatic failure. The only places so far where he's done decently is Saudi Arabia and Pebble Beach, both with minimal trees enclosing on the course. This was a typical 'tight' tree-lined course and his wild shots cost him dearly.

Got to say Tiger is playing very disinterested on the weekend. Sometimes we get on Phil for poor play when not in contention. Tiger seems to be doing the same thing.

I agree with you. I'm shocked seeing how many drives are in the rough and poor shots being made.
I am disgusted watching Adam Scott putt. I swear he anchors his putter!!!!

I know the feeling.... was playing with wife on saturday....we did not get to course with sufficient time for me to get my fill on the driving range.... started play with double-double-triple, I was so pissed off. Then I hit a false front on a green and ball rolled down into the "valley of sin"..... 40-ft drop off....after 3 shots (2 of which rolled back to my feet), I landed in the green side bunker, I get that and just stab at the ball, moving it 2 feet, stabbed again, it's on the green and just pick up the ball and get in the cart sulking. By the time we made the turn, I crossed out my score and declared, "this is a practice round for me today".

Then I play on sunday, getting to the range 1 hr before my tee time and shoot an 80!! See, when I get my practice in, it pays off!

Lol funny story. I think everyone who plays has had a day that turned into a "practice round"

My days at the course have gotten so erratic that sometimes I don't keep score! Ha ha. I have much empathy for Phil playing in the cold and damp weather with arthritis. It matters not what or how much medication one is on--there simply are days when one is stiff and left with little feeling in the extremities. He's amazing in that he doesn't complain, at least publicly, or use it as an excuse.
Loved your funny story about the golf course. I never can put it all together. If I can putt, nothing else is happening. When the driving and irons are good, the putting escapes me. LOL
