WGC Match Play 2018 3rd Day

OK, let's go Phil!!

I'm not sure I understand the details.  I thought they used to play out to a win, but they ended up ending as a tie/half-point if they tied after 18.  Was that a new change this year?

So how does it work for the round robbin final?

Phil (1-1-0) vs Rafa Cabrera Bello (1-1-0)
&
Satoshi Kodaira (0-2-0) vs Charles Howell (2-0-0)

If Phil loses (1-2-0) and Satoshi wins (1-2-0), they both are Tied with lowest points?, do they have a play off? sudden death?

So Phil needs at least a half-point/split to stay in this (1-1-1) and even if Satoshi wins (1-2-0), Satoshi goes home..... but only if Phil wins or ties; if Phil loses then he needs Satoshi to lose too..  I know last year some people foregone the 3rd round because even if they won, they lost, so they left and their playing competitor got an automatic win.  I do remember that.

Come on Phil. Was 10 yrds closer and Rafa puts it to 2 feet, makes bird, takes hole.

Phil must win and Howell must lose. That would set up sudden death with Howell. A halve of Phil's match gives Howell the pod automatically

Crap, I must have misunderstood... so only 1 guy from each 4-some advances?  Ugh, so yea, Phil better win....and chuckie lose.  I thought only 1 guy is eliminated, the lowest points gu, lol.  I was starting to think, uhm, that's still a dam big field.

Well, Rafa wasn't 3 feet; Shottracker re-corrected to 12 feet, but he made the putt. Phil is not making putts and Rafa has.

I kind of like that you have more than a one-and-done if you don't do well in all of them, but that depends on the other guys as well, just like what happened here with Howell winning 3-0-0

Kind of the downside of match play. I hope that Phil doesn't end up with the same money as those who lost all three matches.

I googled last year's payoffs and Phil will place higher than guys that lost 3 matches but guys that got 2.5 points and had playoff will be ahead of Phil in money. I guess I'm rooting for all the non Americans to do well so there won't be guys creeping up on Phil in the Ryder Cup stats.

Think Phil gets a T-17, unless someone who lost a pod went 2-0-1

PHIL got out putted on Thursday--plain and simple. He got down on Thursday on himself but snapped out for a win. He shot a 66 and won on Friday

IMO its job done and time to move on!!!

That's right. They said that the wind affected the putting. Never good to play in too much wind before heading to Augusta. He finished ok. At least he didn't fold under pressure. Hung tough!

Howell's putter finally cooled down today but he was hot and hotter on Wednesday

Well, when you saw that fatigue was playing a factor with the matches, I was glad that Phil was not there. I think this format is exhausting for the finalists.
