WGC Match Play 2018 1st Day

and PHIL has the 1st of his round robin matches against Charles Howell III this afternoon. He really needs three matches won to advance as 2-1 will likely mean a playoff so let's go PHIL!

No birdies? I stand corrected, Phil made a pitiful 1 birdie the entire round. Not going to make it; then again, I think Zack Johnson made 6 birdies and still lost.

Round 2 already behind the 8 ball. 2 down thru 2.
I guess this will be Phils off week. In his interview he said he expects to be on form more weeks and have the occasional off week.

I didn't bother to start a Day 2, because this might just be the end of it. Last year, didn't some people just skip the 3rd day when they lost the first 2? I can't think of the scenario where you'd do that, because I remember the other guy they were supposed to play getting the automatic win because that player left before the 3rd round-robin round.

Phil made a mess of 14, from the fairway, puts it 60 feet away from 150 yrds and then sends it by and misses the come back putt for par.

Day 2 - Phil won the 16th hole by luck, going over the green in 2 on par5, chipped it to 3 feet and was conceded birdie. Competitor was ~5 feet above the flag and rolled over the edge missing birdie. Must take one of the remaining (par-3, par-4) holes to go even, or better, take both and win.

Day 2 - Phil is EVEN after taking the par-3 hole as well... he landed in bunker beyond the hole, so did the Japanese player (who was much closer to the pin), but the other player sent it twice as far past the hole as Phil; other player missed the hole and Phil sank the birdie putt.  They showed Phil's ball in slow motion, and was weird, he set it up with the line marked around the diameter sideways instead of inline with the line of the putt, as if the line was left-to-right instead of with your line of sight on the line of the putt?
