Phil at Wells Fargo Quail Hollow

and PHIL has had some great weeks at this course. I hope this week is a special one!

Phil shot the first 9 holes 4 under and is one shot off the lead as he plays the last 9 holes.

Phil birdies the 10th hole and is now tied for the lead at -5. This is the best he has looked in a long time.

Trying not to get too excited ....but its hard. Can he have 4 consecutive good rounds in him?

Yea, I know what you mean, I no sooner say wahooo, yahooo, and the game goes south. But nice to see anyway.

I thought they changed the course for this tournament, but I guess not, Quail Hollow is Quail Hollow? Not sure what I'm thinking of.

And this is not an easy course. I heard them talking on Sirius XM Golf channel that some consider the conditions as tough a test as Augusta Natl., but I'm not sure about that.

Well, watched and waited for the putt on the 3D ShotLink and nice to see Phil go -6 and #1.  Then on the next hole, was watching and noticed that the other guys balls hit the fairway first, then waited and didn't see Phil's ball yet.  I'm thinking all kinds of nefarious things, that why if he had honors did he not go first?, does that mean his ball is in trouble?... i see Dahmen, 107 yrds to the hole, then Griffin, 100 yrds to the hole....then finally Phil's ball flies over their ball.....way further.....Phil, 97 feet to the hole (33 yards, lol.  He blew it 70 yrds past their balls.

.................. and now has 5 feet for birdie.

did the USGA tell Phil no special exemption?

Geesus, 235 yrd par-3. I'd need driver/3-wood.

Well, Phil is mangling this hole, tee ball was far right off the green, and then sails the green on way back now well off the green in front. Up and down from there for bogie, otherwise double.

I forget East coast time! Bogie on #6. Shaky start!

Missed his eagle putt at #7 but back to even for day!

Crap, hit his drive in the water on #14. Hopefully he can get no worse than a bogey.

Phil hit a great third shot, leaving him with a 3 footer for par, which he made. Phil definitely escaped on that hole.

Making a mess of this par-5, needs to make a 14-footer to save par

2 par 5s he's blown. I just hope he can finish at -5 and get this round over with. Phil a week ago went pretty public about focus issues. We are seeing a different Phil today.

No reason to hit it in water on 17. Stupid decision to go at flag. Now 18th no picnic. He should have been -5 . He knows he doesn't have it today but can't play it safe.

So, the answer to 'what happened yesterday that Phil played so well?"...... it was a fluke; back to same old same old today.

Golly, all Phil had to do was do no worse than +1 and he would have still been in the lead (tied).
