Players Championship 2015 - 2nd Round
Phil, need to play better, hit more fairways, then greens, and getting it close to the hole to make birdies.

spot on analysis--PHIL's bogies were mostly the result of poor drives
Re: Players Championship 2015 - 2nd Round
Well, he made a nice drive into the fairway and converted a nice long 21-ft putt on the 1st hole (9th) for -1 today so far to go to Even!!

Re: Players Championship 2015 - 2nd Round
I take it back... Phil puts his approach shot from 240 yrds, way offline to the right on the par-5 into the water!! WTF. He has 9 ft for par, threw away a birdie chance. Dumb dumb dumb. Both Sergio and KJ laid up and now sitting with birdie putts of 3 and 13 feet, Phil with par putt of 9 feet. KJ converts his layup into a birdie. Sergio with the longer putt makes par and aggressive Phil makes BOGIE.

Phil... on the fairway on 18 and approach shot wide left in the water?... really? And then after the drop, his 3rd shot went wide right, not even close to the green... the man has troubles with his game.
- Triple Bogie, warm up the engines on the plane.

His two second shots at the green with water nearby has killed this round
Its his iron shots and not tee shots today

I officially declare Phil's game is in a 'STATE OF MESS'
In 2 years, the only decent tournaments he's had has been the PGA last year and Master's this year. The rest have been ho-hum. He is not doing himself any favors by a slackened schedule, rather, going in the opposite direction imo.

Phil saying after the round "I can't believe I actually won here" doesn't exude a lot of confidence. However, he indicated he will be playing the next 3 tournaments leading into the US Open, and I applaud him for that...need to get that competitive play under his belt.

Today was just as mess, as yesterday was. He can only get better--hopefully. His iron shots were so many yards wide and off that it was unbelievable. I think he needs to throttle back the drives and play for the fairway.

Even Phil said when he takes 3 weeks off, it's hard for him to get that mental competitiveness back....ok, then don't take 3 weeks off. ;-)

So happy that Rickie Fowler won today. Now if he could give some confidence to Phil during their Tues. practice rounds, that would be great! He played so well on the second 9 and in the playoff. Congratulations to Rickie. Phil has done an excellent job of mentoring him, and at least they're both from the same stable.

Yes, glad for Rickie (ex-OSU player, where I work :-). I remember being a volunteer scorer during the Ping Invitational to the best high school players when I was with his group (he played with Tadd Fujikawa, if you remember him) and talked to both their mothers. They both found it hard to go to the AJGA tournaments (especially Tadd, from Hawaii) as they said they don't have a 'money tree' in their yard. Rickie worked with some elderly 'golf pro' of sorts at a driving range, not a fancy country club. Also glad he got his swing fixed....even at OSU and when he started on tour he had a 'slasher style' driver swing and I think Butch Harmon got him straightened out a bit that he had a great year last year continuing into this year.
But Phil....great to see he's going to be playing about 4 weeks in a row through the US Open.
Golf Channel has been promoting starting this Thursday they will have 25 straight days of live golf.... I guess they include the NCAA championship coverage. Also great to hear that the winning team of the women's NCAA Div I will all be given sponsor exemptions to the LPGA tournament with the big "M" logo (forgot the name, has a big red "M", oil company?).
A young golfer who my son played against a few times, also from Oklahoma was, until last week, the lead #1 golfer at Univ. Arkansas Div. I, was arrested along with his roommate (#4 golf on same team) for 'sexual voyeurism'. They came across a female at a bar who they knew and was too drunk to drive, they brought her home, she thought she would sleep it off at their house, and they proceeded to take sexually explicit photos of her (she recalled seeing flashes)...dumb dumb dumb....they threw their near-term lives/careers away. Bad decisions can wreck one's life. My son was quick to send me the link to the news....and I said glad he escaped his youth without that type of baggage, and nice to hear 'you brought me up to be better than that', and I said that doesn't mean you will follow suite (I always talked about 'don't be a blind follower'; if you have dumb friends, you can always decide not to do stupid things they choose to do...having been a Resident Assistant in university dorms on a 'wet campus' opened my eyes to many stupid things youngsters do) .

Rickie seems like a fine young man. Phil can be proud of taking him under his wing. He's always been a Rickie fan and openly campaigned for him to be on US teams. I also congratulate Sergio for the way he took his loss and manned up.

Apparently there was some heckling of Sergio? I wish they would do something to cut that out. Maybe the par-3 at the Waste Management, but most everywhere else, let's protect that from becoming routine.

I heard him say it was ok, but I detest it also. I was really referring to him saying that he played well and that it didn't work out for him this time. In the past he's blamed the golfing gods, the press for not seeing what a great player he is etc. Not sure if he has the same girlfriend as last year, but he seems to be in a really good place. He's a great player.
