2017 President's Cup Watch
Looks like Kevin Kisner jumped up one spot as well as Ryan Moore jumping Phil to push Phil to #18 place. Perhaps the recent inclusion as Paula Creamer helping win 3pts (3-1-0 record) as a Captain's (secret) pick for the Solheim Cup may bode in Phil's favor....maybe not.

President's Cup list and those playing (*) in the Wyndham Championship tournament this week. Phil's missed cuts don't amount to a 'full week' of playing....is he HUNGRY enough to go the distance and show he 'wants in' on the President's Cup? Some above and below him are trying to solidify their positions. Good luck Phil. I'm thinking Gary Woodland and Charles Howell as Captain's picks from where they've been ending up on the leader board on sundays in the last 2 months.

All I can say is its pretty shocking that we have come down to this. Last year he was so close to winning and really this year he hasn't built on that momentum with the swing changes now settled in.

She sure did. But I'm not sure if the Captain's will feel that Phil already got Captain's pick last time and perhaps this time is time to move on? Was Phil a Captain's pick for both the last Ryder and President's cup or just one of them?, I forgot.

Phil made the Ryder Cup on points. The last presidents cup he was ranked 30th and got a captains pick. He and Zach Johnson scored the highest points 3- 0 -1. Phil was very touched and grateful for the PICK. The team unanimously wanted him on the team there was some kind of vote.

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
The media stories look stacked against Phil being on President's Cup team, imo.
There's the stories about how "Phil Mickelson only has one top-10 finish in the last five months, and he is running out of time to impress captain Steve Stricker."
Then with Speith's interview where he is talking about how great it is to have 'new blood' on the US President's Cup team.
It's almost like it's preparing for a no-Phil President's Cup. And with Tiger being asked to serve as 'assistant Captain', would there be room for Phil in a similar role?

Wow, Stricker letting Phil decide if he wants to play on the President's Cup team using a Captain's pick ("I want to be on the team").
Phil wants to be on the team and Stricker is letting him decide (giving Phil a Captain's pick in his pocket to use)/
Wow Steve, abdicating your Captain responsibilities by letting Phil choose whether he is to be on the team or not?

Phil actually moved up one spot to 17th. I really think he will play well this week. It appears he's going to be on the team regard less so maybe that will take the pressure off a bit.

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
Wow, went to the official standings site and at first couldn't figure out who dropped because none of those immediately below Phil showed that they dropped in order for him to move up....until you get way down... Snedeker dropped 19 spots, from 15 to 34th place for not playing last week.

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
It appears that Phil is now 15th in the standings. Looking at the other guys that also aren't an automatic pick, Phil is easily the best pick among them. I don't think anyone could argue otherwise, though if he played bad this weekend and lost spots there could be a case against. However, it worked out for the best and Phil had a pretty good weekend. I am sure Steve Stricker is happy that Phil showed him something positive...

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
Phil did himself a lot of good by playing well. I don't understand why the delay for the Captain's picks, which is announced when, Sept 6th (Wednes)?
My Captain's picks would be :
1. Phil
2. Charlie Hoffman (Chappell and Hoffman both finished with 4,369 points, Chappell a fraction of a point ahead of him taking the 10th automatic spot that was determined by bogies made by several players towards the end of play on Sunday)
[3. Gary Woodland]
Charlie, I like you better with the short hair.
I wonder if it has anything to do with what my college professor told me half-way through college when I went from a longer hair style to a more modern, shorter style: "Mr. M, glad to see you joined the civilized world with a nice hair cut....maybe now good things will happen!"
Young Bulls: "Good things?... like what?"
Professor: "Like, perhaps getting better grades?"
Young Bulls: "Huh, You got to be kidding. You mean I got worse grades because of my hair?"
Professor: "You'd be surprised how much that can affect your grades."
Young Bulls (to a classmate): "Do you think he was kidding?"
Classmate (to Bulls): "Don't worry about it, you got short hair now"

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
I keep telling that to everyone, but no one believes me!
After play at the Dell Championship.... “I got reports from other players that it was the Phil of old,” Stricker said.
“I played with Phil in a U.S. Open at Bethpage, and it’s incredible how much support he gets from those people,” Stricker said of New York area sports fans. “So hopefully he’ll use that to his advantage. He’ll be ready. He’s shown that over the years.”
No one’s comfort level matches that of Mickelson, 47, who is 23-16-12 in his Presidents Cup career. He has had 14 different partners for the Four-Ball and Foursomes matches, and most recently went 3-0-1 in Korea after getting a pick from then-U.S. captain Jay Haas.

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
Not a surprise to see PHIL picked--I suspect that even with mediocre play in Boston he would have been picked.
The T6 just locked it up.
Why have a President's cup in New York without PHIL?

Re: 2017 President's Cup Watch
Am I correct that these President's Cup venues are set up by the host team, and not likely to 'tricked-up/hard' like some PGA venues have been?
