Memphis Round Three 2016
and he will be out later. I hope to walk about 13 or 14 holes with him today. Yes yes it will be Memphis hot today. Only 46 guys are under par this week and the conditions have been benign. We had a lot of rain last week so fairways and greens are fairly receptive. No wind which makes this course very hard. Just a few notes on Southwind and why it can be pretty tough. Oh the course can be tougher. The pins have mostly be accessible this week so far that is.
Water off the tee at 18 as well as the par threes at 4-11-14 can make this course tough. The water is not too bad at #14 (except we will see a tucked pin this weekend) but he makes an impact at 4-11 and certainly number 18. Now you can find water off the tee at #10 if you can hit the ball 340 yards ala Dustin Johnson. Southwind also has water for your second shot at 3-9-12-15. You just have to be in fairways on those holes. Nearly impossible to hit those greens if you are not on the short grass. The fairway grass is also more Texas like then Florida or CA or GA like. No big divots here. Shallower swings are the norm here. Looking forward to the day.

Great summary/review...hope Phil can keep up and continue to play well. He certainly has played much better than last year.

There are 7 holes and mostly they are near the green. So the risk reward is not too bad. Lots of guys just bogie if you find the water. Yes there are doubles but if you can make a 2 to 10 foot putt its only bogie. The greens are not the challenge here at Southwind (for most holes). Its the water-the small landing targets-the trees that are very strategic.
It is not oakmont fast or sloppy.

Last week Phil seemed to have practiced everything but his putting
Seems he took my advice for once and ONLY practiced his putting. His game is AWFUL. But he's making nearly everything. Guess what, he's T2

I left after the 12th hole. I am home and I showered. Let's just say that shade was at a premium today. Not the worst humidity but at 92% its steamy in the sun. I will run down some of PHIL's shots in a bit.

Re: Memphis Round Three 2016
I guess we will see if Berger holds up--PHIL hit a ton of quality shots today. He got wayward off the tee at 17 and 18. I know I was tired after 12 holes!!!
PHIL had makeable birdies at 4-9-11-12-15 after great shots. The greens are not gimmies here at Memphis. They have a lot of grain in them and frankly CA guys usually find them challenging. Yes Berger is a southern guy--lots of Memphis winners are!!!
