Mickelson out of top 25 for first time in 20 years

In 1995, America Online began to offer access to the Internet, eBay was founded and the O.J. Simpson trial captivated the nation.
It was also the start of Phil Mickelson's 20-year run in the top 25 of the Official World Golf Rankings. When the rankings update after the Sanderson Farms Championship, Mickelson will drop out of the top 25 for the first time since Sept. 17, 1995.
Mickelson, 45, hasn't won since capturing his fifth major at the 2013 Open at Muirfield. He only recorded three top-10 finishes this past season (Masters, Wells Fargo and FedEx St. Jude).
Despite his five majors and 42 career Tour wins, Lefty has never held the top spot in the world rankings. He's been second several times, including after his second Masters win in 2006. From 1996-2010, he finished the year inside the top 10 on every occasion, save for '03.
Mickelson announced last week that he was leaving instructor Butch Harmon as he searches to regain his form for 2016 and another run at the career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open at Oakmont.

So my question...even though he is in 5th place right now, does he start losing points real fast because he hasn't won or placed high enough in many tournaments this past year.

He will lose world ranking points every week he doesn't play.

Well, that's his own fault then....he CHOOSES his schedule. I have no 'sorrow' for his fall in rankings as it's from his own choosing not to play. Other high ranked younger golfers are out playing several times already.... Rickie, DJ, Spieth, etc. They are placing/contending and getting world ranking points. You snooze, you lose.
Reminds me when my son was playing in his state-wide junior golf tour....used to be 10 consecutive weekends (2-day tournament), then they got bigger and went 20 consecutive weekends. Kids with the most points got into the 'Tournament of Champions' and some obviously, played all 20. Those that wanted a 'break from play' (or their parents did, lol), suffered the consequence of gaining no points and falling back when they sat out a week or two.

It probably doesn't mean that much to Phil or he'd play, but I think the wrap-around season is too much golf. I'm watching football on Sat. and Sun. afternoons, especially since most of the golf is the no names. Gives them a chance to get some money and points. The aforementioned golfers, with the exception of DJ are single and all are young. Hopefully Phil is enjoying his family and practicing for a smashing 2016. He's golfs biggest brand on name alone and has many other obligations, so I doubt that he's snoozing, really. Than again, what do I know?
