And PHIL is sitting as of now. Not sure about foursomes yet--everything is tight!! USA leads two matches!!! Fourballs should favor Euros but not so far. PHIL is not a fab foursomes player

Phil-Dechambeaux vs Garcia-Noren in Four-somes. Like was said, foursomes is not Phil's best format, so not sure why they are sending him out here, but we want to see Phil.

USA 3 - Euro 1, I guess I'll take that split every session.

The Euros -if I remember right-normally do better in foursomes. Or at least they believe they do. The USA always leads with foursomes at home while the Euros have lead with four balls. Each side is convinced that they have the right plan.

The logic for PHIL is that he is better at four balls because he is wild off the tee. In a four ball match he might get 6 birds and three bogies but if his partner protects him the bogies do not matter and his birdies will some holes. On the flip if PHIL has a partner who finds fairways or makes putts then PHIL has an iron or an wedge in his hand on critical holes.

I would have PHIL tee off on even holes todays--tee shots are critical on odd holes.

Ugh, Phil already down 1 and he puts it in the water with a driving iron. Going to be 2-down

From little I've seen, I don't see much chemistry between Phil and Dechambeaux. Phil hits it some 15 feet past the pin out of bunker and Dechambeaux misses the putt....down 3

Frick, DJ/Rickie down-3, Stenson hits through the green, down the hill on back side, 60 feet away.... Rickie puts it to 8 feet, DJ misses the putt, and Rose puts it to 4 feet and they walk away even.

Phil should have plated 2 four ball and the single . Since he can't hit fairways but
Bryson missed an 8fter and 12 fter .

Phil / Bryson now 5-down. Golly, I hope it doesn't look like it would have been better if Phil not made the team, but I don't know how many teams have recovered from 5-down.

Let's just say that PHIL and the USA are struggling this afternoon

I don't know why Furyk broke up some of the successful teams from the past. Should have left those alone and worked on re-working the remaining players.

I hope they can win 1 afternoon match sndc s tart tomorrow tied. This is a horrible afternoon.

Why he ever put Phil in this format on this course is beyond reason! Just a big mess. They don't know the course, and can't play it anyway! Geez! I had to quit watching. Glad it's just Day 1.

IMO everything pre RC pointed to Tiger Bryson pairing. King Tiger changed his mind. Phil was supposed to go out in four balls and it cost him . Jim and Phil are close friends and Phil went along with it because no one tells tiger what to do.

If these wer enot Phil's pairings, like they were at Hazletine, Phil needs to give Furyk the Watson treatment

Why did they ever stray, as has been stated earlier, from successful pairings from the past? There is absolutely zero chemistry or energy between these teams on the US side! Sunday strolls in the park.

Roseforte said there is a complicated backstory about the reed Spieth split .that may have screwed up everything even though he and JT played well.
I think that screwed up phil playing 4 ball. Phil also has gloves on all day yesterday. In his presser he has a wide bandage of some sort on finger. I think joint issues. Also Alan Shipnunk said he had terrible practice session Saturday. Hope gokf gods give him today.

Not the way Phil wanted to go out in his last Ryder Cup.

Phil sucking wind, Molinari looking good all week, geesh, what a lousy Ryder cup overall and for Phil....could end up winning no points and only having played 2 of 5 events. I think the opening pairings was a surprise and set the stage and choice of Phil in Four-somes.  Phil, time to bow out gracefully from these events (Ryder & President's cup) and help as assistant or Captain.

Everyone screwing it up.... Koepka 20 yards past Casey on 18 fairway, Casey puts it 8 feet below the hole and Koepka pulls it 50 feet offline into left bunker....halves instead of winning

Tiger's opponent misses but to win hole and Tiger misses 5-6 footer to halve.

Johnny Miller just said, and I concur, the bad Captain's picks were partly the reason USA lost, Tiger + Phil combined for 0-6, 6 lost points. USA lost retention of cup by 4.5 points and winning by 5 pts, ugh.

I read a number of comments and Reed's wife disputed that and said "ask Jordan why he didn't want to play with Patrick', so it's not clear to me what the real story is. But whomever decided to break that up, yes, azzhole.

I would not believe anything Reed's wife says. She was the one who kicked his family off the course at the US Open.

Golly, what is sad is that 3 of our Captain’s picks failed to even win 1 point (Phil, Tiger, Bryson). Euro’s Capt picks played splendidly

My world was re-arranged on Saturday morning. I got an early call and we had to make a mad dash to Nashville for the day. So no golf for me and no PHIL commentary!! PHIL did not play on Saturday---Today we got early up and went to Church-by then PHIL and USA had lost the cup.

Oh my and better luck two years from now.
