Im surprised this addition makes me wonder if he is playing 4 weeks in a row which would mean he is playing Zurich also. I assume he is playing Wells Fargo then the Players.

Good, he should play more, imo. A freshman at Univ. Oklahoma (our rivals) will be playing (Dalke), he's a kid who 'verbally committed' to OU when he was 12 yrs old. Laughingly, when he was 14, he was playing in the Ping Invitational that my wife and I volunteer as walking scorers, and I remember someone talking about him on the tee area. I said "I've got to see this little kid", until this guy in front of me turns around and the guy talking to me points to him....frickin 14?, I was expecting a Jordan Speith-sized kid...he looked like a linebacker, was bigger than me. Anyway, he won the Junior PGA championship last year which gets him an exemption into the Valero Open

No, that's about 7 hr drive from here. I rather play golf here than go all the way down there and watch Phil miss the cut :-0 (joking, I think)

That new TPC course down there is nasty when the wind blows. I used to play the previous course they played, the Westin LaContara resort course (which played easier then the sister Arnold Palmer course....when I asked why they don't the PGA play the harder Arnold course?, they said at the time because it's not spectator friendly, hard to get people to it).

Lot's of rain just came through (Houston had 1-foot of rain yesterday or day before)....big line of rain from Texas to Kansas just rolled slowly to the east and across our state (OK), we had 2.5-inches and everything is mushy wet.  San Antonio radar looks good for coming days though, unless more develops. I presume they will have 'soft' conditions.

Reports are that Justin Rose-Adam Scott-Bubba Watson will not be available this week so PHIL's pairing will hard for PGA officials to work out.

Just reported on Golf central Phil will arrive Wednesday and is not playing pro am. They said that is probably good because the weather is going to be bad Wednesday

I am not sure if they've played together in an official round, but Phil has been a big fan of his for some time. Phil was talking about him in a press conference before I'd ever seen him play when he was still on the Euro tour.

This is Phils 2nd opt out of a pro am. I believe you only get 2 passes for that unless of course Phil cuts a deal to do a dinner or something at a future event. I assume he isn't playing next week and then plays 2 in a row. Its funny playing this event between 2 off weeks . As far as practice round goes Phil does have that big facility at home so Im sure he is using it. If his game is on Im sure he can contend without a practice round since he has played here before. The BIGGEST thing is Im sure after a MC at the MASTERS he doesn't want to embarrass himself with lousy play this week. I still am not over the shock of MC at the Masters after coming into it with great stats. Despite that, his current stats are still holding up great . He just desperately needs a win to back it up.

What should we expect from Phil Mickelson after he missed the cut in the Masters?

He was a late commitment to Valero. Maybe he felt like he needed an extra week of competition. Either he’s testing out something new, or he’s playing really well. I know he is disappointed in missing the cut at Augusta. It will be interesting to see what he brings to the tournament this week
