well, Phil seemed to play the hole the way he wanted, had a very makeable par putt...and missed it. Bogey at 17.

-1 with one hole to play.

The wind in today has been brutal.

PHIL is trying not to lose the Open today

that's a decent plan but you have to make putts

PHIL had another electric start today. -3 after five holes.

Wow and wow. Very like the -3 after 8 holes for the 1st round at Chambers bay

I saw a ton of PHIL's shots today. Oh so close to being fantastic under tough conditions.

Sloppy bogies at 6 and 7 plus the missed putt at #17 held him back. PHIL had a couple of loose shots in the middle of the round plus a few more putts missed.

Yet I am positive about it. PHIL was so close today.

Good start but boy does it irritate me that the 2 hottest golfers Jordan and DJ get a GIFT being in the morning weather conditions. I really thing they should at least do split tees in this Championship just too much time, 11 hours I think between 1st and last tee time.

I thought Phil was brilliant today except for using driver when Bones wanted the 3 wood. Lost a couple of shots there. I watched others miss putts shorter than Phil did, and he made some really awesome shots. I think he had a great day. Loved them showing him walking back to the Hotel by himself!
