Phil who should have had the morning afternoon draw like Tiger will now be lucky to get 2/3 of the round in before dark. Will be a long day tomorrow. These morning guys got a beautiful day today. Tiger always seems to get that extra recovery time. The tour loves to accommodate him whenever possible. You could call my comments sour grapes but Phil is 50 and now who knows what tomorrow's weather will be.

Valid point. Regardless of what wave Phil ended up in however, IMO he doesn’t have the game to compete for a major like Tiger still does. His days of relevancy in major championships are long gone.

He 1st hole was horrible after a great drive. Im irritated already!!

His bunker shot on #7 was amazing!! robbed of a birdie at #8 and a birdie at #9

He is playing wonderfully

His putting, however, is downright horrific so far

I think he is 'dialing down' his driving.... been seeing driving distances of 280-286, maybe that's helping. Bernhard Langer is at -4 (last I checked) and they're saying he's like 50-70 yards shorter than some of the longer guys yet able to still put in a competitive round.

Phil played 15 horribly.  What the hell was he doing with his 2nd shot....fairway wood? and it dribbled out and went into the rough again?  What the heck was that?  I looked at the video of his 2nd shot on 15 hole again....he took a good swing with his fairway wood but looked like it squibbled out to his right, maybe hit it on the hozle?, so lucky he didn't go in the water.

OK, makes birdie on 16 par-3 !! To -3 score.

I went back and looked at a number of his drives, and seems like Phil's driving better than usual during his 1st round

Phil is driving it better but his putting stinks. He cant handle the pressure on pgatour. Should have never been in the bunker on 18th after that awesome drive.
