BMW Championship 2019 - Round 1

OK, a bit early, but I was wondering myself and just noticed that Phil will have to finish solo 6th in order to make the top-30.  Likely isn't going to happen, imo.


What players need to finish to make the top-30

If he can get the putter hot for the 4 rounds it can make up for any wayward drives he has. He missed so many makeable putts last week...it killed any momentum and his focus. A great 1st round would be helpful too. Lol

Is there a cut on the BMW?  I would have liked to have seen 'no cut' for any of the playoff tournaments.  Give them all, 4 rounds to see how they can do and let the cut be the number who get into the next tournament.  But I like the way they did the final at East Lake (giving them 'scores' not points), you automatically know how the players stand by looking at their score, not having to wait for someone to calculate the respective point totals based on their finish and where that puts them in the Fed Ex Cup.  But at the same time, I don't like that someone can win the first 2 tournaments, all starting at the same level par, but the 'winner' of the 3rd/final gets a 10-shot advantage....and that's considered a PGA tour win?  I like that there's 1 winner and he takes the whole enchilada, but if that win defines a career PGA win, maybe there should be an asterisk that he started with 10-stroke lead?, lol.  I can't find myself embracing that aspect, and yea, I know, not everything has to be the same.

There are only world ranking points given out TC week. And one trophy ...the fed ex winner. So technically a guy can shoot the lowest score that week and no pgatour win on his roster.

Ah, thanks.  I didn't think that finals win merited a PGA Tour win, since $15 mill money and FedEx Winner was enough recognition given the small field and everyone starting from different level. So, this is Phil's last chance to shine? (if he doesn't make top 30, then there's no chance at East Lake). That's it then, time to make the Captain's picks?

Captains picks are November 4th. A month before the Presidents cup.

Phil needs to finish 6th to advance . Tiger needs to finish 11th.

Is there any reason they pushed the Captain's Picks so far back? They used to announce what, 3 of them just before the last FedEx Cup tournament, and the remaining 1 after the last (or final?) tournament (which is this week)? Are there any other tournaments that people can play before November 4th to get noticed for their play (the start of the wrap around season?).

All the fall event winners would surely get Tigers attention. They are putting off the captains picks because the Pres.cup is in December. Hey the 8 qualifying guys could be stone cold by then. The team event always was after the last season event. Dont know why it's in December. Phil will play Safeway and he's is playing in Korea 2 pga events before the captains picks.

I didn't check when the 8 automatics would be 'locked in'? Is that still like, now, at the end of the regular season? Like you said, they could get cold and should have kept the rankings alive until later, imo.

I agree the 8 guys are locked in after this week. Been a screwed up schedule since the west coast swing IMO.

Does he have 2 iPhones pointed up at him? Is one for sending image of his swing to his swing coach and other for the response back?

Never saw that before. Knowing his obsession with swing speed ...maybe it can gauge that. Whatever it isnt working too good.
