WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
and yup its played at the old Firestone course in Akron. PHIL has been low key this week and maybe that's a good thing. He has had some super rounds on this course so maybe this is the week for 4 super rounds for him.
PHIL will out late today so we should see alot of him on TV
Let's go PHIL

Re: WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
I remember sitting next to a guy on a plane from Miami (to Atlanta, and then to Raleigh) back in the late 80's, I think 1989. I was coming back from a scientific meeting as a grad student presenting my work. I sat next to a guy who was very tanned, sporty looking, wearing a golf cap. He asked me what I did and I told him I was a graduate student, doing this, that, and the other. He said "he wished he had a steady job doing something like that". I asked, well what do you do, you look very tanned?... he said he's a PGA professional, to which I responded "I wish I had a job like that!", but I didn't realize his predicament. He spoke with his girlfriend via plane's phone while he flew on to the (pretty sure it was the) Firestone tournament and he had just finished a qualifier for I believe it was the US Open (from memory, but sequence relative to current US Open and Firestone is out of whack), and remember him saying....well, I'm in it at the moment but still have 6 people to finish. His name was Ronnie McCann, just always remembered it because I told my wife and we would look up his name in the weekly PGA tour results in the paper (remember when they would post those in the sports section, along with the winnings?).....and he would miss almost every cut, maybe make $1,700 here, or $1,000 there, then miss cut, miss cut, miss cut. I always remembered that because he was on the plane going to 'the Firestone' as he was going to either play or try to qualify in that (I thought it was in Atlanta). Anyway, of 6 years on tour, he missed every cut during 5 years and in 1989, played 23 tournaments, made 9 cuts and made a whopping $24,000. I only met the guy for a plane ride and remembered his name. I've had people I've worked with for years and can't remember theirs? Go figure.

And catches a fairway bunker on #2. Looks like it's going to be one of those days.

Looks like typical 2013-2015 Phil tournament play. Lucky there's no cut, but if he keeps it up, he'll be struggling....and bottom of the scoreboard, shooting an 82/+12 is last weeks winner, go figure.

Well, triple bogie, so much for golf today, I'm out. Bye all.
Frustratingly sad. T-67 after 3 holes.

Phil can't show up after not playing and do well anymore. If he's not going to give it his all, I wish he'd head for the pasture. Saying that selfishly as I always root for him if he's playing and suffer a broken heart week after week!

this is ridiculous bogeys are bound to happen but a triple after a par on the easy par 5 hole is pretty bad. Rose is a curse for Phil

Taking a peek....ugh, another bogie? Phil, don't know what you do in your 'spare time', but it sure don't look like practicing.

Re: WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
Finally a birdie and if PHIL gets back to par what a run that would be
Re: WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
Had 10 feet to get back to back birdies...but misses the putt
at the turn Phil is +4 (shot a 39).
At least he didn't shoot 40.

Looks like the ship has temporarily steadied. His pal McCord has not given up on him.

Re: WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
Phil is shooting himself out of this on day 1. If there was a cut he'd likely miss it . Im curious if he played this badly on Tuesday and Wednesday in practice. His probably so mad now he cant turn it around or focus. He didn't do any pre tournament interviews probably sick of saying its close.

Re: WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
Phil at 45 has too much going on besides his golf game. Today too many great players at a young age. used to be 30s were your prime. Its just too bad that US open dream seems unlikely at this point.

Re: WGC 2015 Bridgestone 1st round
He is not even in the discussion anymore. On golf channel during lunch today, one of the GC announcers said "what about Phil?...we haven't said anything about Phil?... is it all over for him? At least Brandel Chamblee said he thinks Phil still has a lot in the bag and he expects Phil, at some point, to break the record for oldest PGA tour player to win a tournament. Perhaps said it out of respect, but he seriously isn't even discussed anymore.
