PHIL is a lean mean fighting machine this year.

Will have to see if he can sustain good play in multiple rounds.  I think you can't have one round at Even/over par and expect to be in contention....have to put the foot down in all 4 rounds.

I agree with what he said about having areas around the pin that are not overly contoured like last week at San Antonio.... where you got all this curvature on the green, it makes even a 4-footer tenuous.  At the Shell Houston, he's saying there's less slope surface near the hole so if you can manage to get within 15-20 feet, you could have a true putt, not 2-3 different breaks in 10 feet.

The key now is 4 solid rounds. Get in the hunt and play to a high level.

Phil's 66 got more publicity than the leader matching the course record (which Phil has)

I noticed that....big spread photo, and Scott Piercey who was 3 shots better had a little photo off to the side.

Also, supposed to be windier there today.... 14-11 mph during his round compared to benign conditions yesterday. We have an advisory here in Oklahoma, north winds blowing with the cool weather that came in, but Houston is about 7-8 hrs south of us.

The good news is that Phil was 3 back of the lead yesterday, and half way through the 2nd round, he is still 3 shots back, but it's bunched up a bit more.

Phil has 19 feet for birdie at 2...

Darn, he missed a 5 footer on 3rd hole? Come on Phil, you can't do that and expect to win. Those are the ones you got to make.

PHIL is at -1 after two birds and a bogie its time to rumble!!!

Phil is at -2 (Total -8 ) after 3 birds and a bogie!!  Long way away on this par-3.  But another par-5 coming up in a bit :-).

There he goes, throwing away shots again.  Going for the par-5 green in 2, hit his 3rd shot and still not on the green.  Lucky if he makes par, could be a bogie....could have laid up and chance it with his wedges to get it close.

...oh, he went from rough to the bunker and then to the green....par putt coming up.

The announcers said this course is the hardest course on tour when considering shots from the rough, that it has nasty rough, except the rough is not positioned close to the greens, so if you do end up in the rough, it's tough to get to the greens.....I think that is an example of what they meant.

Great...he made a long putt... those are great gifts!, almost every winner has one or more of those in his bag of shots.
