Farmers Insurance Open (Torrey Pines) - Round 1

OK, Phil opens up on the North Course (this is the one that had a renovation last year, correct?....not as easy as it once was).

Tiger opens up on the South Course, which is the last 2 days of the tourney.

Advantage Phil only because he will play the same course 3 days in a row. Assuming he makes the cut. Please Phil make the cut or how about getting into contention on Sunday !!

Well, I put the message forum up for this weeks' tournament yesterday because I thought yesterday was Thursday, and wondered Ralph, you're getting lazy here. And then I kept looking for scores and didn't see any scores and was thinking, hmmm... I'm CST, that's 2 hours ahead of PST, correct?.... so where are they? Maybe they have fog delay?.... and I kept looking for scores. Wasn't until after lunch that I figured out....crap, it's only Wednesday!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Don't know when we'll find out the 'details', but from that story, it sounds like the request to get brother Tim on the bag was after Phil and Bones parted ways, and not them parting because of.

Hey, do I see that Phil and Justin Rose are in the same pairing? What are the odds?

Pbp wasn't sounding good (from tee to bunker to native area), but Phil made birdie at 17!

-2 through 8 and now t7!

Ended up not great, not bad. He has the tough course tomorrow, and right now "E" par is T-83rd and the lead is -6. Big bunches of people at each of the score levels, especially where Phil is. Hard to say where cut line will be tomorrow, and bunch of people didn't do too badly at the (harder?) South Course:

-6 = 2 of 3 players at South Course
-4 = 4 of 9 players at South Course
-3 = 9 of 20 players at South Course

They said that there's only 3/4 of a stroke difference between the courses this year. That's good news for Phil, I think.

Looks like Phil (and Tiger) both missed a number of putts that just edged the hole and could have easily shot a good bit lower. Yea, I guess after the North Course revamp, it brought them a bit closer together in toughness.

I think so. There used to be a few strokes difference some years.

Wasn't this the course revamp (North Course) that Phil was trying to get but they didn't allow him to be part of it for some reason? I wish he could have done it, I can (jokingly) see him thinking .... "on this hole, I usually hit to the left rough, so let's stretch the fairway out to the left a bit, hehe".
