Valero Texas Open - Rnd #1
http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html
Ouchie: Damon Hack (@damonhackGC) Early at @valerotxopen Martin Kaymer has a 7, Hudson Swafford a 7 and 6 and DA Points opened w 7. Course is a menace!
"@danhodes: @damonhackGC is the wind blowing or is the setup just that hard?" Both

71 guys out so far and only 1 is under par (-1). Looks like it is playing extremely tough.

Re: Valero Texas Open - Rnd #1
I just hope we see signs of life this week
. He has good results at the Shell Houston so Im thinking a win there and then a green jacket. that would be the 3rd time for Phil to win before a major.

Afternoon tee times pushed back 20 minutes die to slow play caused by heavy winds. This event is going to be a joke.

Heavy winds do not help the golf swing!

San Antonio is about 7 hours south of me. We had 40-60 mph yesterday with the storm (tornado) that blew through Oklahoma. Today is a breezy 20+ mph with gusts to 30mph. I suppose Ralph got some of that storm that blew eastward either late last night or this morning?

That's what hurts when you don't play that many tournaments....the few you pick and choose, the weather may not cooperate, so you get little or nothing accomplished.

He looks like he had to hit out to the fairway from the 'native area'. Must get up and down from 139 to avoid bogie. Don't think so, 3rd shot on par-4 is from 14 yrds off the green.

About to Bogie 12 as well. Found the bunker and not able to advance it the 150 yards to the green.
Bogied 12.
Over ran the green on 13, saw that before as well. Wonder if the greens are getting firm/dry from the wind.

I thought the same thing, Joan. The ball only went about 40 yds. I think they said. Broke off at the shaft at the top of the head. Wonder if he'll get another 8 iron this round. That was strange. That bogey not his fault.

Phil took out cell phone and did something. I think as long as not broke from bad behavior you can get it replaced

Birdie-birdie finish for a two-under 70. Very good scoring in tough conditions.
Looks like Phil got the easy end of the draw this week. Hopefully he can take advantage again tomorrow morning. Another under par round would position him well heading into the weekend.

Great finish for Phil . I'm very proud of him. Didn't know what to expect especially with the wind and his driving. If the club didn't break he would be -3 . Oh well. Go PHIL!!!!!!

Great round in tough conditions. T-4th .
Here's the video of the head coming off the 8-iron....exactly at impact it spins off...could have been a dangerous projectile.

Apparently Knost and McDowell had it after 9 holes; Bae didn't even finish 9, stopped after 7? Some guys are 15, 16, 17 over par, ouchie.
Interview after the round... no one asked him about the 8-iron head coming off?

There were 2 parts of his interview. Callaway is getting a new club to him tomorrow. Phil said should arrive in middle of his 2nd round.
