Phil finally hit the green on 7 and 8. Missed the birdie putts, but those were pretty well played holes.

Good drive on 18

71 won't hurt too much in these conditions, but that birdie miss on his last hole stings.

That was a pressure putt at 6.5 ft to get back to even which mentally is so much better than over par and he missed. If this doesn't improve the majors are going to be wayyyy to much pressure. He needs a win before Augusta. Was putting pretty good today but that isn't going to sit well.

This is a tough track for his to start on again. Hopefully tomorrow will be better for him. I think he tried to force the issue by taking driver a couple of times, and that's his game, but he paid the price. Shake off the rust and come out swinging! I thought it could have been worse, and that he made some crucial putts.

71 isnt terrible but a couple club choices cost him. Seems good in his interview. Hopefully afternoon guys have it worse.

Well, the course is playing tough, many big names not doing well:

Rory McIlroy +5
Ernie Ells +6
Dustin Johnson +9
Hudson Swafford +9

I cant help but think Brandel Chamblee took some heat for maligning Phil the way he did after the Ryder Cup because he is almost gushing about him now. AT LEAST he is showing Phil the respect he deserves.

Maybe our phone calls to TGC helped.??? I still can't stand him. If he were a man of conviction, I'd respect him more, but he's a waffler. LOL Phil's still in good shape if he can steady the ship tomorrow. I can watch some of his round, but have an early evening obligation. Hopefully he'll play well. I saw lots of guys making great putts, and lots of guys missing short ones this afternoon. Surely hoping to watch him on the week-end. It makes golf so much more exciting with Phil in the mix.

I agree Brandel is still flavor of the week guy. No matter what he says can't erase what he said about Phil that night. Im going to Doral next week and if I run into TR Reinman I am going to bring it up if I get an opportunity. I know its old news now but curious if Phils camp was aware of it.

Saw how windy it was on some replays, can't fault Phil for his score under those dang conditions.
