Golf in the Olympics
OK, someone set me straight. Other sports, like say running (track & field), swimming, whatever, you have to have ranking times to get into the Olympics, and they are all likely 'among the best in the world', correct? Why did golf set up a stupid system whereby countries with players who are 800th in the world can get into the competition?....shouldn't they have done something to get the top golfers, or at least those that 'qualify' with some kind of qualifier? The more I understand about golf in the Olympics, the more I am un-impressed about it and I can't fault the players for dropping out. The only thing that would keep my interest would be....wow, you get to play against unranked (or 800th-ranked players), what an easy Olympic gold that might be....because the good competition may be the 3rd, 4th, 5th players from countries that have a lot of good players, so they are limited in number to get in.

IMO it has been a mess since day one. For that matter Brazil was a horrible choice for the Olympics.
Re: Golf in the Olympics
'Olympic Golf' tournament should at least match the field of a golf major, but it won't even math that of a normal PGA event, and more likely be equivalent in players to some 3rd world tour event, so why would anyone be interested? Mind boggling.
