Phils worst approach shots are from the fairway. If he could have got to -6 ..but who knows now where he will finish. Very sad day.

unforced error into water at #16 from middle of fairway
Re: Wells Fargo Championship (Quail Hollow) Third Round 2016
Unbelievable misses with short irons on 16 and 18 will cost him a chance to win tomorrow. Very disappointing.

and now he rinses it at 18. Why would you play a draw to that hole location?

Lazy finish to 18. Clearly checked out so no Fs given on those chips.

No words as he takes an 8 on 18 from the fairway. Frees me up from watching golf tomorrow.

Can't explain that second shot at #18--Just PHIL just golf

Only Phil. I am wondering if he will ever win on the tour again.

TV finished just in time . So we didn't have to see the 8 on 18th. I'm speechless. If he could have stayed at -5 he'd of had a chance.

I have lived through many of these days with Phil making big numbers through the years. It's worse now, because who knows how long he'll play. He's had dry spells before and done these things, but there was always another day and another tournament. It's not over. He has shown signs of promise, and I'll still take exciting days having him in the hunt over not having him in the field playing the week-end. I'll bet that he feels worse than we do.

Just want to say that Phil hit some good putts today that could have dropped, and had a couple of bad bounces that should have ended better than they did. He's still in the top 20. He's had a good tournament, and still has tomorrow to go!

Gutted...checked the score before heading into Saturday evening church, I see Phil got a come-back birdie at 17, great!....after church, I come out and check the scores, I hope our priest didn't hear me say "Geesus Cripes", what the heck happened?

It's hard after I was a Fred Couples fan for so long when he didn't win anything. Starting to be a repeat of that.

"Phil energizes the crowd on 17" was one headline....
...followed by, "Phil deflates the crowd on 18". I'm looking at shottracker and can not figure out what he did, I'll have to see if there's a video replay.

Somebody said it hit a fan and went in the water, but if you get the P B P on the shot tracker page, I cannot figure it out. I do know that the greens were fast and brutal, but it doesn't make much sense unless he was in the rough with no way to stop the ball. That 18th hole has his # for sure and has likely cost him victories here before!

Golf central showed it. His approach hit a spectator and rolled in the creek. He took a drop and the chip rolled past flag to other side off green. He then bladed his next chip back across the green and 3 putts.

Aaron Oberholzer said he never saw Phil blade a chip and he must have been in shock . It was tough to watch. I tweeted Bob Harig of espn and he said he didn't think Phil spoke to press but added his 2 approaches on 16 and 18 that both went in water were very strange.

I cut it off after the blade...couldn't bring myself to watch the entire clip. Ughh...Phil, from 2nd cut in the fairway, go for center of the green or right side....that dry left side of green was bait.

At this stage of Phils career he isn't going to be in contention much . Gotta wonder why he didn't play for center of the green. This hole has killed him in the past and he was still in the tournament with 18 more holes on Sunday. Is it his POOR decisions or a miss hit. Would love to know. He should be starting today only 4 back and now he's out of it. Now I have to root for Phil to beat Reed or there goes his place on the Ryder Cup points list.

When he was over the chip, I first thought he had putter. I didn't see any forward press and wondered if he may have found a divot. He didn't even look shocked he bladed it.
