Needs an up-and-down from 80-feet for par, let's do it !!
...yea, I think 2 feet to the hole should do it !! Make the putt !

Phil opened with a 63 in 2013 and followed it with three 71s. He has the most birdies on this course of anyone since 2010. GO PHIL!!!!!

Needs another up-and-down from 70 feet to save par, ugh....keep pushing that envelope and you're gonna make bogie eventually.

Ugh, put the ball so far from the hole, 21 yards....now has to make a 10+ footer for par, likely downhill.

I was at Duetche bank when he shot that 63 and it was ELECTRIC out there. Really miss that excitement.

Wow, Jason Day not skipping a beat, -2 after 2 holes. The baton has been passed along.

You gotta be kidding...he missed a 3 footer? The likelihood of a President's Cup Captain's pick is walking the plank right now (and Jason Day goes to -3 :-(

Well Phil is doing everything in his power to not be considered for a Presidents cup pick (which he didn't want) and will likely be out of the top 70 for the BMW--which I believe he didn't want to play anyway. a win in one of these first 2 Fed ex events would likely have given him a pass for BMW and he could play in Tour championship for the big bucks but not to be at this point. I guess it really is only about the majors. Read he is going to Canada next week. At this point too much in his portfolio going on that isn't golf.

Re: Deutsche Bank - Round 1
The problem is, I don't think you can 'psyche' yourself up to automatically play well only at the majors. I forgot who they interviewed on G.C. last night, but they asked him his strategy for playing well in the FedEx Cup and he simply said, I try to play my best at EVERY TOURNAMENT, not just these or the majors, and that has seemingly worked to prepare him for all tournaments. This Phil thing about being concerned 'only for the majors', I don't know what the heck that means?....to hell with the other PGA tournaments?....how can you disregard them and then expect to play extremely well at the majors? I do not get this philosophy of how that works. IMO, you get your golf game in shape for everything....look at Day, he's been playing well for every tournament. I think Phil is doing (saying?) that to not get his fans psyched up for most tournaments because maybe even he knows 'he's on the back nine of his last round'? and that's one way to minimize expectations?....by saying 'he's going to concentrate on the Majors', but I don't see how that really works in his favor because you can't just turn it on like a light switch....if you're not hitting fairways for a regular tournament, how do you all of a sudden hit them in Majors?...it doesn't work....fix the thing that's broke and play better.

Brutal iron play once again. I thought his weekend play at the PGA was a harbinger of good play for the playoffs, clearly that's not the case. Looking like this will be the final event of Phil's season.

Re: Deutsche Bank - Round 1
Phil is an expert in front of the media and yes he has shown flashes of brilliance that get our hopes up AND HIS but im sure the 150th ranked golfer is playing like that as well. Its very frustrating for his fans because you want to believe what he says but this past year makes 2 lousy years in a row. Its too bad because to watch him in person he moves around like a 20 yr. old and really looks fit. VJ won a ton in his forties but he really put the time in, he is divorced and has a lot less going on in his life...JUST GOLF which is the total opposite of Phil. Im happy for the career he has, just terrible the US Open is likely a pipe dream now.

Interesting, Phil's little yellow ball-position flag in Shottracker gives you different distance to the hole if you hover over it in expanded view vs green-only view.

If he can make a few birdies, he can recover decently enough.
