Barclays - Round 1 Empty Barclays - Round 1

Post by bulls9999 Thu Aug 27, 2015 8:31 am

Phil is off to a good start, -1 through 2 holes and is on the par5 now with a good drive in the fairway.  The rough is deep, needs to keep it out of the rough if you want to advance the ball. He is playing the back side and #18 will be interesting, they will be playing it somewhere around 300 yrds (not the 380 yrds that it is listed at)....so players can go for the green if they feel funky.

Phil is 22 ft from the hole on a par5 and sitting 2....possible eagle but likely birdie.

Take a quick look! He's on top of the leaderboard by himself! Maybe he's energized by Tiger.

Yeah, 3 birdies in a row and -3 and 1st place (for now). It's a different feeling when Phil does positive things early instead of falling behind early.

Wow, in fairway and only 68 yrds to hole and pitches it to 1 yard !!

Can you say -4, 1st place and leading by 2 strokes?  (I know, it's early, but would you rather be trailing by 2 or leading by 2 :-).

....dang, shot tracker changed it to 5 feet

Wouldn't it be nice for Phil to win the Barclays! Aren't they a sponsor of his?

Woo-hoo! Another Birdie and -4

It would be something if it finally came together for him this week! Early for such optimism but it's exciting!

Bubba parred the par 5 as well. What is Phil using for a driver?

Phil doing what he says he has to correct which is losing focus and dropping shots mid and end of round...really frustrating as it always seems to happen and derail a good round.  Hit two poor irons and a mediocre bunker and wedge shot to leave himself 25 feet and 9 feet for par-missed both....he has made enough birdies to be leading but again too many dropped shots and unforced errors.

And he is in trouble at 8 too...needs an up and down from 50 yards....he has made 5 birdies but 3 bogies contrast that with Bubba who has 7 birdies and no bogies.

I might start using that phrase too. Hey, how'd you do at golf today, "well, if I didn't lose focus, I would have been right there...." Ahhh, it's that 'focus' thing? "Yep".

I watched this afternoon and had more respect for the scores. Justin Rose imploded. The afternoon played harder.
